The tower is one of the most significant landmark of Portugal, built in 1520 to protect the capital city Lisbon. Also, the tower served as political prison, telegraph office and lighthouse centuries ago.
*Alfama
Alfama is located on the side of a steep hill and one of the oldest quarters of Lisbon. It is best to visit this place during summer months.
